The Prime -Minister, Hon. W. F. Massey. intends visiting New Plymouth next week. He will arrive on Tuesday evening. On, Wednesday * morning he will visit several parts of the district to* meet settlers; in the afternoon he will open the Winter Show at New Plymouth. On Wednesday evening he will speak at Waitara. On Thursday he will visit Uruti «#V Ureiiui. where he will speak at 8 p.m. On Thursday evening lie will receive deputations at the White Hart Hotel. Private T. Winiki. of Midhirst, has been appointed Corporal on probation in the 6th Reinforcements. The many friends of Mr and Mrs Harry Ashton. of Stratford, will regret to hear of the death of their infant son, which occurred yesterday. Mr H. S. Brookman, late manager of Messrs Hatrick and Co.'s Waitara branch, was on Wednesday presented with a suit case by the staff at Waitara. The young man named W. J. Douglas, the fireman who fell off the engine near Moumahaki on. Wednesday, belongs to Hawera. He is now in the Patea Hospital, and his condition is reported to be serious. The death is reported from America of Mr John Hunny, the obese picture actor, who perhaps ranked next to Mr Charles Chaplin as a. laughter promoter on the screen. He is .said to have died from Blight's disease, at the age of 53 years. Brigadier Carmichael, the new Divisional Commander of the Auckland Division of the Salvation Army, will be given a welcome on Tuesday evening next. The Brigadier is an officer of many years standing, and has held many varied and important positions in the Army. He is spoken of as an earnest and forceful speaker, and one who always commands the thoughtful respect of his audiences. The Brigadier will be accompanied by StaffCaptain Tliurkettle, who is also a musician of no mean order.
