BOXING. NORTHERN CARNIVAL. Reu Phebs 'Association. Auckland, June 3. The Northern Boxing Association held a successful carnival here this evening. The main attraction was the contest between Barney Ireland and Sid Mitchel, for the professional middle-weight championship of New Zealand. The contest was full of incident. In the sixth round Mitchell was groggy, but recovered quickly, and in the ninth round’knocked lieland out.
bowling. the hawera club. At the annual meeting of the Hawera Bowling Club on Monday, it was shown that the indebtedness of the club had been reduced by £56 during the year. The liabilities were £145, and the assets £565. T-he president (Mr W. A. Parkinson) said the club was getting into a position enabling it to consider making material improvements to the pavilion, but probably members would prefer not to do anything for another year. Tbe following officers were elected: President, Mr W. A. Parkinson (reelected) ; vice-presidents, Messrs E. B. Bates and G. Syme (re-elected); secretary, Mr A. Robertson (re-elect-ed); committee: Messrs J- Gray, S. |Adamson, L. S. Tarrant, C. E. Holjlard, R. Tait, J. P. Keen, W. Grant, jW. Robertson, C. Robb; delegates to |the centre, the president, Mr Bates, and the secretary; auditor, Mr 1). G. Smart. ■■ RIFLE SHOOTING. PATEA METING. The Pa tea Rifle Association’s meeting was held to-day, under extremely * good conditions. There were excellent entries, 67 firing in each match.
The chief matches were won by M. Marsh (Inglewood), who scored KM) out of a possible 105, annexing the champion challenge belt. W. Olliver (New Plymouth) was runner-up scoring 95. Three tied for third place, and in the shoot-off Mayhew (Linton) was the successful shot. The champion teams match was won bv Inglewood with a score of 462; !Patou A team was second with 160; Kapo’iga third with 45K. | Owing to good management the n"og’-anime was completed in tune to put on an additional sweepstake match, which resulted: Olliver I, Roots ( Palea) 2. Tim tyro aggregate was won by E. Willis (lateal ,\ith a score of 95.
