PRINCESS IRENE DISASTER.

It is estimated that the Princess Irene’s death roll is 270. The number of officers killed is 28. ' The supposed cause of the disaster is similar to the Bulwark. SUBMARINE VICTIMS. London, May 29. The Sunderland steamer Spennymooro has been sunk by a submarine off the Devonshire coast. The captain and live members of the crew were drowned. Two submarines chased the Argyllshire, but the steamer arrived safely at Havre. The submarine U 24 torpedoed and sank the Elder Dempster steamer Ethiope near Land’s End. The crew took to the boats, and one boat was picked up. LOSS OF THE ETHIOPE. PROCEEDING DOWN CHANNEL. (Received 8.45 a.m.) London, May 30. It is stated that sixteen of the Ethiope’s crew are still missing, but the captain believes they have been picked up. The Ethiope was proceeding down the Channel and was surprised by a siiot across her hows, and a submarine three hundred feet long appeared. The Ethiope attempted to escape, and two shells were fired and she was given live minutes to get out the boats. The Ethiope was then torpedoed. and sank in five minutes.
