'Recruiting is steadily progressing hv Stratford, and it is hoped that the; holding' of demonstrations to aid recruiting will not he necessary in this' town. The Recruiting Officer states that many Senior Cadets are desirous of enlisting. Unfortunately, their appeals have to he reluctantly refused, as their age is against them. Nevertheless, there are many youths under the stipulated age who are so welldeveloped physically that perhaps by dropping red-tape methods the authorities could accept the pick of these brave and patriotic youths. The Krench and Belgian armies have large numbers of youths in the firing line; and it is difficult to see why New Zealand youths, who are, in comparison, better developed physically, and arc naturally endowed with greater adaptability and intelligence than Continental youths, should not be given a similar •chance.' Abolish excessive red-tape, *nd large numbers of excellent lighting youths will be available. It is understood on good authority that youths considerably under the regulation age, apparent or actual, served in Samoa. If there, why not elsewhere?
