The High Commissioner cables under date London, May 17;— With regard to the spot market f> r bacon and hams, the price of bacon has advanced steadily .since my cablegram of February 8. There has been of the high prices of other foods, and the market has advanced, partly owing to purchases for the Government. Small supplies of Danish are coming forward, but Irish and Canadian suppliers have increased. Present quotations are:—lrish 91s to f)ss per cwt., Danish 9‘2s to 91s, Canadian 85s. Hams.—The market was steady, with little alteration in pyices until the middle of April, when prices advanced owing to short supply. Present quotations; English 112 sto 120 s. Irish 108 s to 112, Canadian 74s to 70s, American 70s to 725,
