The meeting of the Chamber of Commerce arranged for this evening has been postponed indefinitely. The local Hibernians engage the Eltham Hibernians in a card tourney at Eltham to-night. He paid an eulogy to the services of the late president, Sir James Wilson, expressing great appreciation of the recognition of his services in receiving the knighthood. The delegates will be banquetted tonight. At the Auckland Supreme Court, Granville Hunt (40 years of age), was charged with the theft of money as a servant. A plea of guilty having been entered, Hunt’s counsel said that .some years ago, Justice Chapman sentenced accused to eighteen months for embezzlement at Wellington. On release he got work with a Frankton storekeeper. Between £7OOO and £BOOO passed through his hands. He now was charged with the theft of four small sums. totalling £ll odd. Though not mentioned in depositions, tthe police report stated Hunt had stolen £4OO from his employer. He (Suggested this was not fair to prisoner. (His Honor s.aid the accused had a chance given him, despite his previous convictions, yet he had robbed. He imposed a sentence of two /ear’s hard labour.—P.A.,
