DISTURBANCE IN CAIRO.

FIFTY SOLDIERS ARRESTED, Paa Fbkßß jassooiATioN. -Auckland, May 17. Cairo newspapers received to-day contain the following official coinnuiuique from the Press Bureau, issued from the Army headquarters:— "On Friday night a disturbance occurred in Sharia Wagh Le Burket, which resulted in a somewhat serious riot. A,s it is impossible to discover the reason for this outbreak, an inquiry will be held. Only soldiers were concerned, but, unfortunately, considerable damage was done to property in this street, which bears an unenviable reputation. A large crowd of soldiers collected and considerable resistance was offered to military police and ■ piquets. In their efforts to restore order, several pistol shots were fired, and four men were wounded, besides others who were injured. A squadron of cavalry and strong piquets' 1 were quickly on the scene, and soon after 3 p.m. normal conditions were restored. The fire brigade and civil police assisted with commendable discietion and forbearance. It is due to the latter that; no natives were implicated in the disorder; Fifty soldiers were arrested and will lie dealt with under military law."
