On Monday evening the committee of thp Kohuratahi branch of the Overseas’ Club hold a meeting to discuss matters in connection with the. Empire Day celebrations. As one of the objects of the Overseas’ Club is to ( stimulate public interest, as much as]>ossible in all matters pertaining to! th e British Empire overseas, it was de-' oided to hold a social and dance to mark the occasion, the proceeds of which will be devoted to some fund to be later decided upon. Previous to the social and dance, a tea, provided.by members’ private subscriptions, will be given, which it is hoped will be largely attended, so that members may have an opportunity of discussing all points bearing on the future welfare of the local branch of the Club, ft was also decided to arrange that children attending .schools at Marco Hoad, Kohuratahi and Tahora, be addressed by various gentlemen on the meaning and importance of Empire Day, and as permission is sure to be i given by the school authorities on this | question, it is thought a spirit of j patriotism will thereby he fostered in I the rising generation. Other matters i of local interest were also dealt with, and a large number, including several ladies, were elected.

Empire Day looks like being a red letter day in the district. The secretary, Mr G. White (Post Box No. 2, Kohuratahi), would like to correspond with some of the members of, various local districts.
