Mr E. J. Judd, of Shannon, has been appointed -secretary to the Riverdale Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd.
The death in Auckland of Mrs McVeagh, mother of Mr .James MeVeagh, solicitor, who recently left Elthara for Auckland, is announced.
Mr. T. Copeland Savage, F.R.C.S. (England), one of Auckland's leading surgeons, will leave New Zealand shortly for service at the front.
Mr C. E. Daniell has been elected chairman of the Wellington Harbor Board. Messrs. J. C. Harkness and ('. \V. Jones were also nominated. The first vote was Mr. Daniell and Mr. Harkness five each, and Mr. Jones four, and at the second vote Mr. Daniell received nine votes, and Mr. Harkness five.
Mr Alfred Ladd, an old resident of New Plymouth, died yesterday at the age of 84 years. Mr. Ladd was in one of the drafts sent to New Zealand for the Maori war, taking part in the YVaikatp campaign. On obtaining ins discharge after the war, he settled in Auckland as a cabinetmaker, and had a shop in Karangahape Itoad for many years. About thirty years ago lie left Auckland and came to New Plymouth, living on the South Road and following the occupation of a builder, from which he retired some years ago.
