Applications for positions as teachers (7th assistant at Stratford and assistant at Raupuba, and pole teacher at Tarurutaingi), are invited by the Taranaki Education Board, This evening, at Midhirst, a euchre party and dance will be held under the auspices of the Midhirst Town Hall Board. The secretary, Mr Weyburne, has all arrangements well in hand for an enjoyable evening. Weather Forecast. —Westerly strong winds to gale at times, and veering by west to south. About twenty couples attended the Druids’ social in the Foresters’ Hall last evening, the small attendance being no doubt due to counter-attrac-tions. Excellent music was provided by Mrs. Bianchi, an extra being supplied by Mr. L. Young. The supper was the committee’s own particular care and was ranch appreciated. Mr. ,T. Jones made an obliging M.C. Another social will be held in about a month’s time. The disappearance of Constable Donald Shaw, at Napier, is still puzzling the authorities. His brother, Constable Hugh Shaw, returned to Wellington yesterday from Napier, after his second visit in search of the missing man. He organised search parties, and he also covered the surrounding country on horseback, but found no trace of his brother. The last seen seen ol Constable Donald Shaw was when he came out of a Napier picture show during the interval. His brother states that Inspector McGrath and the police have done everything possible to unravel the mystery.
The monthly meeting of the Stratford Hospital Board yesterday morning was attended by Messrs J. ChristoIVel, E. Mine, ('. I). Sole, K. Walter, and R. MeK. Morison. An apology was received from Mr J. McAllister. Mr Sole was voted to the chair. The monthly levies to be made upon the local authorities at the rate of Id for capital expenditure and 7.Vd for Ordinary expenditure per £IOO capital value are as follows ;—Stratford County Council £O3 17s lOd, Whangamomona County Council £ls l s Oil, Stratford Borough £ls Os 2d.—Mr McAllister was re-appointed chairman for the year. The Masonic Grand Lodge of New Zealand opened its Annual Communication this morning (states a Wellington Press Association telegram). Reports showed the amounts to the credit of various funds totalled £35,374. 'Pirn Right Worshipful Bro, J. J. Bengali, of Christchurch, was elected (baud Master.
