AN UNUSUAL DEATH. Peh Press Associatt n, Auckland, May 10. • An extraordinary death was described by a doctor who was giving evidence respecting the post-mortem examination of an old man named Robert French, who died suddenly in his bed at Mt. Roskill. The doctor. Dr. J. Howard Lawry, said that he found air in the man’s heart, which was weak, and in blood vessels of the brain and in different places in the circulating system. His theory was that deceased in attempting to rise from his bed caused a slight lesion in one of his lungs and that air, aided by low blood pressure caused hy ? a weak heart, invaded the circulatory system and the man died instantly of embolism or stoppage of circulation. The doctor said that, so far as he know, there was no record of a similar case. The coroner accepted the theory and returned a verdict accordingly. THE CAS TRAGEDY. Wellington, May 19, The inquest was resumed to-day on the victims of the recent gas tragedy. Dr. Hamilton Gilmer deposed to making an autopsy ol the bodies of Holmes and Smith, two of the victims. Their condition was consistent with coal gas poisoning. The Government Analyst’s report on the blood from the victims corroborated the doctor’s opinion. The inquest was adjourned till May 24th.
