At Mr. W. H. Kelly’s billiard rooms to-morrow (Tuesday). night, Clark McConochy, Xew Zealand’s champion billiardist will play an exhibition game with a well-known local amateur.
Three first-offenders were charged this morning at the -Magistrate’s Court, Stratford, Mr S. 13. Hunter, J.P., being on the bench. One only made his appearance, and was convicted and discharged. having been in the cells since Saturday. The other two forfeited their bail (£1 in each case). At the office of the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., is to be seen a sample plant of silver beet or Swiss chard of the No. 1 plain, dark green leaf with thick midrib variety. The plant is grown from seed and manure specially imported by the Company, and farmers are welcome to inspect and to make inquiries about this excellent fodder plant.

Messrs Harry I’limmer and Winter Hall, heads of the Patriotic Comedy Company, which has just concluded a tour of the .North Isjand, arrived hack in Wellington on Thursday. When thev arived, the Prime Minister (Hon. W. Massey, was not in town, and as they had little time to spare later in the day. they posted him a cheque for Ll'oOO, accompanied by the following letter :—Right Hon. the Prime Minister, Wellington.—Dear Mr Massey.—We write enclosing a cheque for CL’SOO, being the first instalment of the profits of the tour in aid of the Belgian Fund.—Yours faithfully, Harry i’limmer, Winter Hall.”
