KILLED ON THE RAILWAY.
WELL-KNOWN AUCKLAND RESIDENT. Pee Press association. Auckland, May 8. William Monaghan, a well-known local identity, was killed on the railway line at Ellerslie last night. it was presumed he fell off the train, but it appears that on finding he was carried past his stopping place, he got off at the next station and was walking back along the railway line to Ellerslie when he was overtaken by a train. Deceased was seventy years of age and a wealthy man. He figured in the Supreme Court and Bankruptcy Court on several occasions. On one, occasion his solicitor stated that Monaghan was worth between £IO,OOO and £14,000.
