The Defence Department has received a large number of applications from artisans and merchants willing to go to England to assist in the production of munitions of war, but so far the Government has not received any reply to its communications regarding such offers. A number-of the applicants arc men engaged ill the Colonial Ammunition Factory at Auckland, but the Government is not prepared to allow them to go as their services are urgently required here.
