Italy.

ITALY'S' "TREACHERY." Unithd Phum Copenhagen, May 7. The Kaiser, Herr Holtweg, and Here Von Jagow have returned to Berlin in connection with the Italian situation. The Kolnische Volk Zeitnng believes that war with Italy is inevitable. If it comes, Germany's hatred of the English will- be nothing compared to her hatred of Italy for her treachery. Rome, May 6. It is serai-officially stated that Italy's programme was completely drawn up months ago, and deliberately carried out. Incidents are seemingly contradictory, but the Government will announce its fixed purpose when the moment is deemed to be most opportune. Discussions in the meantime are purposeless. REPORTED AUSTRO-ITALIAN ACCORD. GERMAN PESSIMISTIC VIEW. (Received 8.40 a.m.) 1 London, May 7. A Rome mesasge says it is stated in official circles that there is a possibility of an Austro-Italian -accord. This is probably due to the fact that Austria, realising that Italy is determined to intervene to secure the territories which Italians inhabit, is now concerned about the next territory to be handed over. The greatest obstacle is the claim for the cession of Trieste. Prince Von Buelow declares that if he could induce Signor Sounino to relinquish the claim for Trieste, and Trieste would accept the constitution of a free city, an agreement might be reached in a short time. The Lokal Auzieger takes a pessimistic view, and says: "We must reckon on momentous news from Rome, but can await with calmness Italy's decision." PASSENGER TRAINS STOPPED. AUSTRO-GERMAN ACTJYSTY. (Received 9.30 a.m.) Rome, May 7. The Government has suppressed forty passenger trains on the great lines, alleging the difficulty of securing coal. Austro-German troops, artillery and ammunition are hurrying to Trieste, and German troops are waiting to be conveyed to Bosnia and Dahnatia.
