THE MAYORAL INSTALLATION.

The installation of Mr .1, W. Boon as Mayor of Stratford gave the opportunity for His Worship to address a few words of wisdom to the Councillors whom he is expected to lead for the next two years. As lie told them verv little progress is likely to he made without practical unanimity. Mr Boon’s modest recognition of tho

fact that it will be impossible to carry on the work of the Borough as they would like to carry it on, is at least an indication that, as practical man of sound judgment, he is not likely to rush to extremes. We certainly wish .Mi' Boon a successful term of oltice and see no reason way it should not be so. The retiring Mayor, .Mr W.j P, Kirkwood, will doubtless be (as ( he himself has admitted) relieved to throw oil the responsibilities of office, for no more hard-working and conscientious occupant of the chair could, 'be found, and public duties have occupied a very large part of Mr Kirkwood’s time. In addition to the Mayoralty, during one year of Mr Kirkwood was President of the Stratford A. and P. Association, and has also been .President of the Stratford Acclimatisation Society, member of the Executive of the Stratford Racing Clnh, member of the Executive of the Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Patriotic Committee, Chairman of the Railway League, and Chairman of the Boy Scouts’ Executive. That his services will not be altogether lost| to the community is assured, for some! of the above-mentioned offices he still j holds, Mr Kirkwood is by no means likely to give up Ids interest in local affairs, but he has certainly earned a rest.
