Official. —We closely pressed the German advance guards on the whole front westwards of Xienien, and repulsed the enemy in the Sosbia region, near Osowiech, with heavy losses. Wo repulsed four attaaeks at Todnovojetz between the Pisasehkva rivf'r, with very great German losses. We allowed the Austrians to ap proach wire entanglements in the Kopolovetz forest, north of Xn/.okpass, on Wednesday night, and then suddenly scattered them with a devastating lire. We vigorously advanced on the enemy trenches in the Golovetz region in the- direction of Stryj. We bayonetted a portion of the defenders, and took four thousand prisoners. Tiie new German activity north of Xienien is believed to he merely a demonstration connected with the probhale movements of the German fleet covering the landing of troops at Plangen. Hitherto Germany has attached no importance to the Baltic provinces, but is now seeking a fresh offensive in this direction in view of the failure at Warsaw and Xienien, and she also hopes to exert the moral influence of neutral neighbors, Petrograd, May 2.
