"SHALL BELGIUM STARVE?"
[m I‘fra Editor Stbatvobd Post.] Sir,—ln the Sydney “Morning Herald,” dated Ltli April, it is stated that on the previous day £30,000 was cabled for the Belgians, being 'the State of New South Wales’ quota for April. The “Stratford Evening Post” of April 27th inst., prints in llarge type: “Shall Belgium Starved” this being the heading of an appeal from the National Committee of Relief in Belgium for £600,000 to prevent starvation. Are the various portions of the British Empire neglecting to remit their respective quotas? Has New Zealand yet remitted the £15,,000 promised monthly, beginning this (month? Are the quotas enough even lif paid promptly?—l am. etc., INTERESTED. (It is impossible to say if the quotas will be enough in any case, but it lies largely with the individual to give freely as his means will permit. That too much can be given is out of the question. The Government and the Belgian Consul in New Zealand are, we are convinced, using every endeavour to meet the situation so far as , New Zealand is concerned, though at | the moment we have no word that the £15,000 promised has been actually cabled.—Editor “Stratford Post.”)
