... At the monthly meeting, held on Tuesday, there were present: Crs. A. I Meredith (chairman), M. Geever, N. hi. Cleland, A. Coyne, T. R. Mounsey. J. McCluggage and • McCutchan. The Engineer’s report was read. Tfc W as resolved, on the motion of Crs. Mounsey and Coyne, that the I engineer be asked to prepare plans, j and supply estimate of cost of a shed (for storing plant. | On the motion of Crs. Coyne and Mounsey, it was decided that the small gate at the rear of the Council’s section be closed up. ( It was resolved, on the motion of Crs. Coyne and Mounsey, that the chairman interview Dr. Hitchcock with regard to the latter’s lease of the Council’s section as a horse paddock. [ Cr. McCutchan moved, and Cr. I Geever seconded, that the clerk make (application for *£6oo for the second j bridge in Whungamomona township in addition to the central riding |bridge rate, ft was also resolved, on the motion of the Chairman and Cr. j Mounsey, that the clerk make application for £2OO for the Kinai Head [bridge, the same to be a charge on the Strathmore Hiding bridge rate. Mr J. O’Connor, Makahu, waited on the Council with regard to a proposed bridge to give access to his section. It was resolved, on the motion of, Ci's. Coyne and McCluggage, that the Minister of Public Works he asked if he would make a grant of £l5O for a bridge estimated to cost £2OO to £250, and that the peculiar circumstances of the case and the urgent nature of the work he Sully pointed out to the Minister, j Resolved that a truck of 9in. pipes Ibe obtained for Tahora Riding. I The Council went into committee to Igo into the applications for the position |of surfaceman for Central Riding, and it was resolved that the appointment he left in the hands of the engineer, and that in vie\V of the urgency of placing the pound again in commission the Council recommends the Engineer to employ, if necessary, a married man. ;
On the motion of Crs. McCutcliim and McCluggage, it was resolved that the Railway Department be requested to put in cattle stops on the railway near J. May’s crossing on the Ohura Road, near the Kahouratalii pound. GENERAL. From W. R. Foley, re carting metal along Kapuni Road.—Received. From T. Ross re the erection of gate near Whangamomona Valley Road.—lt, was resolved to inform Mr Ross that the Council cannot consent to any person erecting gates on public roads. It was resolved on the motion of Councillors Meredith and Cieever, that Cr. McCluggage’s action in selling old bridge timber at Pohokura for the sum of £1 be confirmed.
The matter of replying to the Public Works Department re grant for Okara Road be left in the hands of the County Clerk. From the Public Works Department re vesting portion of Ohura Road.—• Received. Resolved that the Engineer open up the drains which are now blocked on the old Ohura Road near McAloon’s stables. Resolved that the Engineer put in a culvert on the Brewer Road, opposopposite Lockwood’s boardinghouse.
Cr. Mounsey’s action in allowing the surfaceman to assist tiie contractor on the Brewer Road was confirmed.
Resolved on the motion of Crs. McCutchan and Geever, that Mr Trask be informed that the Council requires [the timber in pound paddock for fencing posts. Accounts amounting to £1776 16s Id were passed for payment.
