A ,London cablegram states that on the motion of the Lo.d Chief .Justice, Sir George Reid w is elected honorary behclre. of the Middle Temple. While fishing at Castlepoint last week Mrs Peter Oliver, of Fernridge, caught a groper weighing 841 b. Mrs Oliver, who is an expert fisher, “played” the fish in good style (says the Wairarapa Times), and eventually landed it with the assistance of Mr Oliver. At the Magistrate’s Court, Strat-j ford, judgment was given by default' in the following cases:—A. J. Hint/ v. Alfred Brown, £0 3s (£1 3s (kl costs); E. A. Drake v. S. Baird, £1 Is 7d (costs £1 ss); T. Davis (Mr Rutherfnrd) v. Thomas O’Connell, £5 lls 6d (£1 Us 6d costs). In the judgment summons case, Bright and Backhouse v. Jas. McLeod, the debtor was ordered to pay £7 5s (3d, in default fourteen days’ imprisonment. Gisborne people are jubilant over tlib reported discovery in the Awapuni lagoon of a water that made Bradford famous for its wool. An expert Inis declared that the water is even superior to that of Bradford, possessing a special quality for the treatment of wool. It is stated that a number of promifient sheep farmers are interesting themselves iii the new discovery, and a public demonstration of pelt preparing will be given.
