GALLANTRY IN THE DARDANELLES. TRIBUTE FROM IMPERIAL GOVERNMENT. Press Association Extraordinary. Wellington, April 29. The following cablegram lias been received by the Governor from the Secretary of State for the Colonies: — His Majesty’s Government desires me to offer you warmest congratulations on the splendid gallantry and magnificent achievement of your contingents in the successful progress of operations in the Dardanelles. \ • MESSAGE FROM THE PREMIER. The Mayoi' of Stratford (Mr W. P. Kirkwood) received a telegram from the Premier (Hon. W. F. Massey) this afternoon containing the information given above, and concluding:— “I am making a public announcement from the steps Parliament buildings at 12.30 to-day, and providing circumstances are favorable in your town, would suggest that similar course might be taken by you to nmke the information public Ibis afternoon in view of the importance of the occasion. —W. F. Massey."

The circumstances were certainly not favourable to follow Mr Massey’s suggestion here, and Mr Kirkwood therefore reluctantly omitted any announcement from the Post Office steps.
