J H.M. THEATRE. Last night .Maurice Costello was starred in a beautiful love romance “The Acid Test,” a fine Vitagraph production in two reels. “The Bathe War Edition” shows true war seen.os from Europe—the French in action on the snow-swept battlefield of I'landers, is a grand inspiring scene. Intt'e Mary Bickford done some splendid work in “Lena and the Geese.’ An A.B. re-issue two splendid scenics wee shown; “On the River Katsiira— Japan (in colors) and “Along the Reschnla.” “Ups and Downs” is a humorous farce hard to heat. Other good comedies include “Buddy’s First ('air and a “Million Dollar Bride. To-mor-row night a great moral story will be featured “The Battle of the Sexes, a -1000 ft Domino production. THE COURT CARDS. “Absolutely the best company of its kind that I have seen and heard in Australasia.” Thus does that most trenchant of all critics, the “Triad,” comment upon the talented English « Musical Comedy Company, which Edgar Warwick is tonring round the British Empire under the quaint title of “The Court Cards.” Such criticism, too, is justified, for the personnel of the “Cards” includes cidv artistes of talent who have already made names for themselves. Nothing to give the greatest pleasure or the maximum of amusement is missing from the cleverly-arranged programes o) real novelties which the Cards can stage iiv l so great variety. Humour, and clean . sparkling new humour at that, is supplied iu a delightfully unique style, artistic vocal work is there in plenty, for all four voices are most Capably represented, there is a splendid innovation of delightful instrumental items, and above all there is the great outstanding feature that lifts the “Court] Cards” to a level above anything that has preceded them, the wonderful perfection of their most entertaining concerted work. Each of the many quaint ly costumed and elaborately staged scenes of the Cards is a feast for both eye and ear. Music, lyrics and dances combine to make them really miniature comic operas. All who have seen the Court Cards have been charmed with them. The box plan opens at, Grubb’s at 9 a.in. to-morrow for the season of two nights next week, Tues-j day and Wednesday.
