Election of School Committees.

The annual meetings of householders for the election of committees for the ensuing year were held last evening. 'J he following results'are to hand:— STRATFORD SCHOOL. There was an attendance of about 30, including four ladies, in the school. The report and balance-sheet were taken as read) on the motion of Messrs C.' I). Sole and Lawsiii!, i Mr P. Skoglund (chairman ul the committee), said ke had much pleasure in moving the adoption of the report and balancc-slieot. The report covered the ground of the committee's work very fully. The balance-sheet was. as usual, quite satisfactory. He explain-! ed that the sum of £l9 10s 9d did not represent the amount available for the coining year, as there were other sinus in the .Board's hands awaiting subsidy,j which brought the balance up to £loo.| The committee had not only succeeded fairly well in getting the financial position in to the state it was, but they had done a great deal of work. Now; they had a building and ground second to none in New Zealand in any primary school. Mr C. I). Sole, in seconding the motion, asked for information regarding the alteration in the boundaries of tho Education districts. It was a question of very great importance to all. There was a possibility of the Education Board ceasing to exist and part ol Taranaki being put into the Wanganui district. It would lie well, he considered, to obtain the feeling of the meeting and also if possible an acknowledgment in terms somewhat similar to the resolution passed last year. The position as it stood now was that there were schools at Hawera and Eltham which were in the Wanganui Education Board district, and they should endeavor to do what they could to retain the Taranaki Education district, it' any one district had a right to have a Board for themselves it was Taranaki, as it was second to none in its facilities for the education of its children.

Mr J. McDonald congratulated the committee on the amount of work which had been done on the school grounds, always considering the small amount of money available with which to do it. He mentioned that previous to coming to reside in Taranaki, he had always heard Stratford spoken of in the highest 'terms in reference to the volume and work of the headmaster, the teachers, and the committee, and he had much pleasure in congratulating them all.—-(Applause). The motion for the adoption of the report and balaitce-sheet was then put and carried.

THE NEW COMMITTTE. The election of committee resulted jis •■ follows:—T. Skoglund 25, J. W . McMillan 23, W. McDonald 'JO, T. C. Fookes 20, F. J. McDonald 19, V. Cramer IK, S. Ward 17. (elected)., J. Martin 13, G. Mills 9, E. A. Osmond 7, T. Lawson 7. TARANAKI EDUCATION DISTRICT. Mr .Sole moved that this meeting of householders urges upon the Minister <>l Education the necessity of retaining Taranaki as a separate educational district, and that the provincial district of Taranaki bo the boundaries of that educational district. Seconded by Mr Skoglund. Mr Masters doubted 'whether the carrying of the resolution would be ol any effect, as a Commission had been set I!)). It would be better, in his opinion, to appoint two members of the meeting to give evidence before the Commission when it came round. .Mr Sole said be would Like it to appear that the people wore deadly anxious to retain their district intact. The motion was carried unanimously. GENERAL.

On the motion of Mr Sole, seconded by Mr .Mills, a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the outgoing committee for their work.

The Chairman, in moving a hearty vote of thanks to the Headmaster (Air Tyrer) and staff for the high state of efficiency, said that every year the. meeting passed the same motion, and lie trusted they could continue for many more years to pass the same resolution.—(Applause). The committee got a great deal of credit from the householders for their work", but they must not forget that much of that was due to the advice given them by Mr Tyrer, who, it must be admitted, made the shots and the committee fired them. Mr Skoglund said lie would like to acknowledge the thanks of the committee and their appreciation of the services given by the secretary, Mr T. H. Penn.—(Applause).—■ The motion was seconded by Mr Fookes, who referred to the affection the children had for their school, which spoke volumes for the kindly relations existing between them and the staff.— The motion was carried amidst applause, and Mr Thomas briefly replied for the si aft. thanking the speakers for their appreciative remarks.
