METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL.
Last Friday evening, the scholars of the Methodist Sunday School, Regain Street, were treated to a social. The hoys and girls turned out in full force, and a very enjoyable programme of games, etc.. was appreciated by the children. Opportunity wa-s taken to present to the scholars qualifying the Robert Raike's diplomas. The Rev. Reader, in presenting the diplomas, congratulated the scholars upfln their splendid record. The following scholars wrvc successful:— Roy Burgess, Huddv Clemow, Ronald Goodrick, Donald McAllister, John Norton, Cyril. Foster, Frances Clemow, Eileen Foster. Eleven other scholars also won the first shield to be attached to their diplomas for their second year's effort. The Robert Raike's diploma, it may be stated, is recognised by all Sunday Schools throughout the world. Tt was started in memory of Mr Robert Raikes, the founder of the Sunday School movement. To win the diploma outright, the scholar has to qualify for at least 90 per cent, of the total marks awarded for the year for seven years. The first year the diploma is awarded, and in successive years a shield of different colour for each year is given, and is attached in its allotted place. The marlcs for each Sunday included two marks out of ten for attending a church service on Sunday morning or evening. It will be seen that the effort of the children has been one of which the Sunday School official,, feel very proud.
