The Union approved of amalgamation with the Australian Railways Union. POLITICIAN SUED FOR LIBEL. (Received 10.5 a.m.) Melbourne, April 20. W. A. Fox and Co., mineowners, are suing Mr Brown, Minister of Mines, for £SOOO for alleged libel. BOARDINGHOUSE BURNED AT COOGEE. . (Received 10.5 a.m.) Sydney, April 26. A boardinghouse was destroyed by fire at Coogee, the damage being £3OOO. NORTON-CRIFFITHS SCHEME. (Received 10.30 a.m.) Sydney, April 26. A ballot of the Railway Workers’ and General Laborers’ Association decided in favor of amalgamation with the Australian Workers’ Union by 5203 votes to 1541. A vote in connection with the Norton-Griffiths scheme favoured contract by 3469 votes to 3051, the majority being much smaller than anticipated. It was stated that the'knowledge that the ballot was going in favor of the scheme prevented the delegates at the Labor Conference supporting a censure vote connected with the matter.
