In past seasons the Stratford Acclimatisation Society lias put on rangers to prevent poaching as the shooting season was about to open. Unfortunately, the rangers were too well known to poachers, with the result that no convictions were obtained. Profiting by the experience, the Society !ms engaged a capable ranger from outside the district, and poachers are promised a merry time. Pheasants are reoorieii numerous where there is cover, and quail are as plentiful as ever. In very lew districts in New Zealand are quail so plentiful as is the ease here.
