LOST ON THE MOUNTAIN.
SEVERAL SEARCH PARTIES OUT. I A young mini luiiiicd Pearce, 23 years of age, of Hie Wellinjiton Post Office staff, who was spending a holiday at Dawson’s falls House, is lost on Mount Kginont, and up to the present (2.30). though active searches have heen made, no news lias been heard ol his whereabouts. Mr Pearce left the house on Thursday morning to climb the Mountain, and as he did not return and it was growing late, Guide Murphy and Messrs Robertson and Craig made a search for him. Mr Graham, ol the North Fgmont HoAse, was informed, and, with Guide Upson, went to the top yesterday morning. A thorough search was made, Guido Upson working down the south side to Dawson’s Falls House, while Mr Graham followed a ■route to the North House, but neither discovered any trace of the missing man. The Dawson’s Falls party were searching during the best part of Thursday night, and found indications that Mr Pearce had proceeded from the western side of Fanthanrs Peak down to the Kaupokonui River, and it was thought he should be able to reach the house from thorp. Upon the non-ap-pearance of the missing man, however, a further search was made, but was resultless. A party consisting of Messrs J. U. McMillan, J. Hignett, and Fitz;lierbert , left Stratford last night in Mr H. Gollop’s car, for the Dawson’s Falls House to join in the search, and it is understood a party from Eltham wore to commence at daylight this morning.
