IN THE DARDANELLES. THE ENEMY’S REPORT. “ Times and Sydney Sun Service. London, April 23. A Berlin official message runs: Anglo-French attacks on the Dardanelles have proved fruitless. The French troops have been transported from the Dardanelles to Egypt. Three of the Allies’ vessels were sunk and fourteen damaged. LANDING OF BRITISH TROOPS. Sofia, April 23. Fugitives confirm the landing of the British at Enos. They report that the Turkish commandant ordered the evacuation of Port Athens. THE MANITOU HOLD-UP. Sofia, April 23. A Greek sailor from the Manitou states that the torpedo-boat was flying the Russian flag and- signalled the Manitou to stop, and she obeyed. When 150 yards away the torpedoboat hoisted the Turkish flag and discharged a torpedo. Fearing she was doomed, the Manitou lowered all the boats,. which were filled with men when the relief cruiser arrived. Twenty-four men of the field artillery were drowned on the Manitou, and twenty-four are missing; also two South Wales Borderers. CREEK SAILING SHIP DESTROYED BY DRIFTING TORPEDO. (Received 8.35 a.m.) Athens, April 23. A Greek sailing ship was sunk by a drifting torpedo in the Aegean Sea, having apparently come from the Dardanelles. The captain and two women were killed. PERSIANS RETREAT BEFORE THE TURKS. (Received 8.10 a.m.) Petrograd, April 23. The Persians at Kennanshah are retiring before the Turks, who are advancing towards Ramadan. The Persian Cabinet is engaged in pourparlers with the Turkish Ambassador, hoping the troops will be recalled. HASTENING OPERATIONS. (Received 10.55 a.m.) Paris, April 23. Air Churchill lias visited Augagneur. Ho hold a conference in tiio north of France on the question ol methods for hastening the Dardanelles operations.
