FIRES.

DAMAGE AT FREEZING WORKS. PER PrBBB ASSOCIATION. Whangarei, April 17. A somewhat disastrous fire occurred on Saturday night at Whangarei Heads freezing works. The nigntwatchman discovered flames issuing from the main building roof. The principal freezing chamber and the ends were burnt out. Two thousand quarters of beef were roasted, or more (>]■ less damaged. The owners, Messrs Besty Bros., of London, recently decided on additions to cope with the vastly growing trade, and last week 300 tons of machinery arrived by the Pakeha. Fortunately the additional machinery escaped destruction. Repairs will take two months) -The .exact damage is unknown,-but it is fairly extensive. The insurances are held in London -aml-'Auckland; but- the. amounts are not stated. On Tuesday last the Pakeha loaded 1000 carcases.
