As ii sequel to the Taupiri Colliery disaster, in which over 40 miners lost their lives, some 20 writs have been issued against the Taupiri Coalmines. Ltd., on behalf, of the relatives and dependents of the deceased miners, claiming, compensation in sums up to £lsott A i'ltds Association telegram from Wellington states that a test case came before Justices Cooper and Eos king in Chambers to-day, for decision on two points:— (l) As to whether the cases should bo heard by a common or special jury; and (2) as ,to whether the venue of the cases should bo Auckland or Hamilton, Their Honors made an order for a trial by special jury at Auckland on date -to he fixed.
