THE APOLOGY TO CHILI.

CANTENTS- OF* THE EXGHANOED NOTES.

United Pkebs Association. (Received 2.45 p.m.) Amsterdam, April 15. The Chilian Note states that the Dresden on 9th March anchored 500 metres from the shore in Cumberland Bay, and asked for eigfit days in which |to repair. The Governor refused, i but allowed her twenty-four hours. Then he notified the Dresden that she was interned, and he communicated witty his Government. Before the Government replied the Kent, Glasgow, and Oraraa arrived on, the 14th, and opened lire. When the Dresden’s protest was not accepted, the captain blew her up. The act of hostility painfully surprised the Chilian Government. Sir Edward Grey deeply regrets the misunderstanding. The Glasgow’s captain had not yet reported. Otherreports suggest that the Dresden had 1 not accepted internment, as her colours were flying and tire guns we it. trained. The vessel might have escaped and attacked commerce, and probably the Britishers. assumed that •she was defying Chilian authority and abusing neutrality. The Government, •however, did not desire to qualify tiro apology.
