TARANAKI PRESBYTERY.
The Rev. Mr Shore, moderator, presided over a well-attended meeting of the Taranaki Presbytery on April Ist, at Hawera. Mr Mac Diarmid, of New Plymouth, wrote apologising for his unavoidable absence. Mr Howes, on behalf of Mr Shore, read the report of the commission to visit Opunake. Steady and faithful work was being done. The families were comparatively few, bnt the membership was being maintained. The revenue showed a liberal response on the part of the members to ordinary and special work. Yet a larger income was necessary. The report was adopted, together with a lengthy riding, containing a number of recommendations, and it was arranged that Mr Shore should exchange pulpit duties with Mr Welsh and read it to the Opunake congregation. Mr Bridge reported that lie had audited the Treasurer’s books and certified them as correctly kept. Normnnhy—Mokoia.—A proposal to detachment from Normanby and join it to Hawera was considered.—After some discussion, it was agreed to defer the matter to next meeting, and to ask Mr Shore to supply fortnightly afternoon service till then. Mr Shore and Mr Bone were appointed to meet with the Normanby congregation as to its status ami report in June. Mr Bailey is shortly to bo transferred from Okato to Kanieri, and Mr J. W. Russell,M.CL, has undertaken temporary supply. An application for ordination under the Home Mission Regulations was received from Mr Kirgan, of Kaponga, and was held over to the Juno meeting. Mr Roseveare gave an interesting report of chaplains work at the recent camp, near New Plymouth, and mentioned that sympathetic and tangible expressions of appreciation had been received from the oflicers, some of whom had forwarded contributions towards the expenses of the recreation tent.—A motion of thanks to the officers was passed and also a resolution that steps be taken to procure a tent and equipment for the use of Presbytertian chaplain in the military camps. Mr Mclvor intimated that ho had been appointed Prebyterian chaplain to the cam]) at Waverley, April JO to May 10. Wet Canteen.—The clerk was instructed to write to the Hon. Jas. Allen a letter expressing the Presbytery’s appreciation of bis determination not to allow such to bo established at Trontham.
It was agreed to request the sessions to prepare a roll of honor of the names of men who in their congregations .had volunteered for active service. The Presbytery adjourned to meet on June 3rd, in Hawera Presbyterian Church.
