ACCIDENT TO RAILWAY PORTER. Carterton. April 11. John Marshall, relieving railway porter at Carterton station, met with an accident '-liL morning. He attempted to exchange the tablet from the engine by hand, and the automatic exchange arm on the engine pierced his forearm and tore the flesh away. He was taken to a private hospital for treatment. His injuries are not very serious, KILLED BY FALL OF EARTH, l‘'eilding, April It. A middle aged man named Phelps was killed at Waitnna West this morning bv a tall ot earth while working on a contract. Christchurch, April 11. Regarding the case of Winifred May Cliss, who was admitted to the hospital last night suffering from gas poisoning, the information to the police shows that the affair was accidental. She was seized with a lit while attending a gas stove, and was found lying on the floor with the gas tube disconnected, and the gas escaped into the room. Fortunately, the doors were all wide open. The woman is now out of danger. Auckland, April 11. Hilaries Anderson, married, about If) years of age, was crushed to death at Kps.om by a moving stable which was supported on trollies. Ho was underneath the stable, when the wall suddenly sank. He leaves a wife and family residing at Hobson.
