Queen Alexandra, several royalties, Mr Asquith (Premier), and the members of the Cabinet attended the wedding of the Hon. Neil Primrose to Miss Victoria Stanley at St. Margaret's. London. A cablegram states that it was the great social event of the season. Mr J. W. Deem, Fields' Supervisor to the Agricultural Department, arrived in Stratford last night on official business, and left for the south again this afternoon. Mr A. Blanton, formerly manager of the Wellington Publishing Company, iias been appointed manager of the "West Australian" newspaper at Perth, W.A. Captain Hal swell, of the Highland Light Infantry, holder of the Olympic quarter-mile record in 1!30S, was killed in action. Mr W. S. Hill, horticulturist, and plant breeder at the Moumahaki Experimental Farm, has resigned and intends to reside at Pukekohe. The Right Hon. Sir Henry Burton, P.C., Lord Justice of Appeal, has retired, and received a barony. He is succeeded by the Hon. Sir Thomas Bolts Warrington, a Judge of the High Court of Justice.
It is rumoured ('states the Alexandra Herald) that the Hon. H. D. Bell will succeed the Hon. Thomas Mackenzie as High, Commissioner, and that the latter will return to New Zealand and become leader of the Upper House.
At AH Saints' Church, Eltham, on Monday, Mr Cecil Stanners Beechy, Carterton, and Miss OlTvette Camcross, eldest daughter of the Hon. W. Carncross, M.L.C., were unitedj in matrimony. The bridesmaids were Misses Sybil Carncross, May Pass, and Doreen McGarry. Mr Fred Beechy, brother of the bridegroom, acted as best man. The Pev. 6. W. Dent officiated.
Mr W. Ferier, photographer, Timaru. has received a cable from the War Office that his son Colin, 2 J, a lieutenant in the Royal Fusil- * ■ iers, was killed by a shell in a dugout at Ypres on November 11th. He had been a lieutenant in the Timarn Territorials, and had just gone Home to study as an architect. On the outbreak of war lie joined the Royal Fusiliers.
On Tuesday, at St. Joseph's Church, New Plymouth, Mr Andrew Frank Ridded, of the Post and Telegraphs, Whangamomona, was married to Miss Annie Rothery, only daughter of the late Mr Jacob Rothery, of Rahotu. The Very Reverend Dean McKenna officiated. The bride was given away by her brother, Mr W. Rothery. The' bridesmaids were Miss S. Riddell and Miss Edna Rothery. Mr Morton Priest, of Whaiiganioniona acted as groomsman.
Mr Graeme Thomson has achieved an unexampled rise —from clerk to director—in the Admiralty during three months. Tn October he was superintending clerk in the Transport Department under Rear-Admiral H. W. Savory. In the November "Xavy List" lie appeared as holding the posi. tion of Assistant-Inspector of ping. By January he had become head of this Department and Director of Transports. Mr Churchill said last month that Mr Thomson was one of tlie discoveries of the war.
