IN THE DARDANELLES. SINKING OF THE WARSHIP MEDJIMM MEDJIDEH. United Press Association. Amsterdam, April 5. An official message from Constantinople says the Medjimm Mcdjideh was mined at Otchatoff at the mouth of the river Dneiper. COEBEN AND BRESLAU. SHOTS EXCHANGED WITH RUSSIA IN THE BOSPHORUS. Petrograd, April 6. Official:—Our fleet near the Crimean coast exchanged shots at Jong range with the Goeheu and Breslau, and pursued them until’ dusk. During the night our torpedoes encountered cruisers a hundred ' miles from the Bosphorus. The enemy opened a vigorous fire, but avoided an engagement.
FEARS FOR SAFETY OF ITALIAN STEAMER.
Rome, April 6. The Italian steamer Lugi Parodi, from Baltimore, is regarded as lost. Newspapers attribute the loss to a German submarine in the Atlantic, and are of opinion that the Germans have not disclosed the attack, fearing Italy’s anger. The crew’s families hade now been promised pensions. MINES IN THE BALTIC. GERMAN FLEET SEEK SAFETY. Copenhagen, April G. The German fleet was unable to return to the base after attacking Lilian. They were caught in their own mine-field, which was adrift. The fleet took refuge between the islands of Gotsland and Oeland until the passage was cleared.
Advices from Stockholm state that the Russians have mined the southern Baltic, between Bornholm and Rnegen I si amis.
THE BLOCKADE. GRIMSBY TRAWLER TORPEDOED IN THE NORTH SEA. (Received 9 a.m.) London, April (5. A Grimsby trawler was torpedoed in the North Sea after half an hour’s chase. TORPEDOED IN ENGLISH CHANNEL. (Received !) a.m.) London, April (1. The Cardiff steamer Northlands was torpedoed off Beachy Head. The crew of twenty-four was saved. “TWO MINUTES TO QUIT.” (Received 11.10 a.m.) London, April 0. The Northlands zigzagged, but was quickly overhauled by the submarine, I which fired a gun and gave the crew two minutes to quit. The boats had . boon fortunately swung out in anticipation of an emergency, and they were pulling away when a torpedo broke the ship in halves. She sank in ten minutes.
