FEILDING RACES.

(Notes by Cicero.)

Record acceptances have been received by the Feilding Jockey Club for tbeir autumn meeting, which opens on Monday next. After the wet weather we have experienced, the track is sure to bo soft, as it is of clay formation, and holds the moisture. This possibly will cause the downfall of a number of well-backed ones.

| The programme will open with the Wainta Hack, for which event the Eg-mont-trained brace, Coropett and Iceberg, are fancied by their respective trainers, and although they are sure to 'run well, the writer prefers the Fordell trained Client to either of the Taranaki representatives, j The field which will saddle up for the Mangaone Stakes of £3OO will he weak, both in numbers and class. Postillion is very well at present, and is greatly fancied by his connections, but the same applies to Play Oft and Avon Park, who are doing great work at Hawera; Postillion and Avon Park 1 should receive most support.

| The Feilding Cup, of £SOO, 1} miles, has attracted nine ofners. Rewi Poto, who heads the handicap, also paid up at Iticcarton, but is a sure starter at Feilding. his trainer favoring the son of Maniapoto’s chances there, but 9.5 will possibly stop him. Leonta successfully carried 8.10 at Masterton, and now is asked to carry six pounds more. Being such a big one he may I not be hampered by the extra poundage. Birkline has not shown form for a considerable time, and may be safely passed over. Master Lupin has not 'sported silk since Wanganui, and is jno badly handicapped. Sunbird and jSquare Deal are on the same mark at 8.4. Of the two, the writer prefers jtho former, who has done a special .preparation for this race. Maniaroa, like Birkline, has been, off the scene 'and may he expected to do better later. •Sir Alba (7.12) is in the boom, and many good judges will not hear of his defeat. Katana, I do not like for a race of this description. Leonta, Sir Alba and Sunbird should make the event interesting.

Eleven good hurdlers figure in the Kawa Kawa Hurdles. Flingot, Vi and Styrax will come in for support. The Hunters’ Steeplechase (the first lof its kind run on the course) will attract a lot of attention. The locallyowned Captain Dick will he a starter, but is hardly seasoned enough for Bonny and General Webb. A large field will line up for the Oncpuhi Welter, for which race Miralma and Master Montoa are nicely placed. The Onga Hack contains a number of smart sprinters. Hushabyo, Glacier, and Miss Kelly will command a strong following.

The curtain will be rung down on the day’s sport with the Holcombe Welter. Princess Moutou and George appear the best of the bunch.

CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB'S MEETING.

The flags will be unfurled at Riccaram on .Monday and 'luesday next, ()n the first day the Great Master Han-

dicap, of £lllOO, should be a great race if Emperador, Croesus and Clynelisn

each get a fair run. The Champagne Stakes, of £IOOO, looks to be at the mercy of the Chokebore stable, and Flying Start may be the elect.

Tuesday will see the Great Autumn Handicap, of £I3OO, and the Challenge Stakes, of £IOOO, decided. Ladoga and Warstep may he the most prominent in the former race, whilst Emperndor and Flying Start should command respect in the latter event.
