THE TOTALISATOR MOVEMENT IN N.S.W. United Press Association. (Received 9.50 a.m.) Melbourne, April 2. The State Attorney-General, referring to the totalisator movement, says that to legalise this anti-social vice would be wrong to the community. Their policy in regard to gambling was to keep it as disreputable as possible and to confine it to the racecourse.

Tradesmen’s Handicap, of 350sovs, one mile and a quarter.—Royal Irish I, Red Brook 2; Tangiwai 3. Scratched: Self. The running was made to the distance by Lady Penury, then Royal Irish, Red Book, and Tangiwai came through, a great race resulting in necks separating the placed horses. Brighton Hurdles Handicap of 350 so vs, two miles.—Tragedy King 1, Black Northern 2, Admiral Soult 3. Scratched: Cloudy Dawn, Teonga, and Sphinx; Tragedy King took charge five furlongs from home, eventually winning by three lengths. Time 3min 57 3-sseos.

President’s Handicap, of 350sovs, five furlongs.—Centre 1, Goldfire 2, Colonel Soult 3. Scratched: Belascp, Lady Middleton, Tact, Ihapuna, and Chime. Goldfire made the running well into the straight, where the field closed up at the lawn rails. Centre came through and .won by half a length. Time Imin 3 4-ssec. - Great Northern Champagne Stakes of lOOOsovs, six furlongs.—Arran 1, Desert Gold 2, Housewife 3. Scratched; Caber Feagh and Lightning. Arran and Desert Gold led to the distance, where Arran drew out and won by three-quarters of a length, lime Imin. 19sec.
