PERSONAL.

The Rev. J. Pattison left by the express to-day to attend the Martoa Sunday School Conference to take part in the proceedings. Rev. J. M. Russell will take the services in Stratford.

Mr W. C. MacGregor, of Dunedin, has accepted the position of Crown Solicitor in Wellington, vice Mr H. H. Ostler, who intends to practise in Auckland. %

A London cablegram reports the death of Lieut. Blackmore, an instructor of the New Zealand volunteers in 1874. It is stated that he assisted in breaking up the “Kelly gang.” V Mr Robert Hell, one of the proprietors of the Ashburton Mail and Guardian, has been appointed one of the delegates of the New Zealand Newspapers Proprietors Association at the International Press Congress in San Francisco in July, states tho Press Association.

Mr W. Morrison, of Maxwelltown, who unsuccessfully contested tlio Patea seat in the Liberal interests against Mr O. V. Pearce, M.P., at the general elections in December last, was tendered a complimentary social at Waverley on Wednesday night. There was a large gathering, there being representatives from various parts of the electorate. Mr Morrison was presented with a purse of sovereigns.
