Persistent Austrian attacks between Gorlitze and Bartfield were repulsed. The Russians progressed in the Baligrod district, capturing prisoners' and guns.

A German official message claims that they captured 1000 at Tauroggcn and killed 2000, and in the KrasnopolAuwalk district captured 3000.

WEST OF THE NIEMEN.

Petrograd, March 30

A communique says’ the German counter offensive west of the Niemen was everywhere stopped. The Germans attached enormous importance to the Niemen offensive. The 31st division, with three reserve regiments and much cavalry, was ordered to push on to Lodzie at all costa. The Germans, by prodigious efforts, attempted to envelope the Russian right north of Ludzie % crossing the frozen Lake Lbussia. A large number .penetrated the Russian rear but were entirely annihilated.
