SOUTH AUSTRALIAN ELECTIONS.

In the Assembly elections, five Laborites were returned' unopposed, The returns are incomplete, but there are prospects of an even contest. Labor leads against the Premier at Victoria, and the Attorney-General’s seat is uncertain. Mr, Lomburg, who is of German extraction, resigned the At-torney-Generalship owing to bitter racial attacks, but he has been vindicated by the Murray electors at present having placed him second on the list.

Mr Winchombe, discussing the resolutions of the Hobart Chamber of Commerce Conference said, while they all favoured trade reciprocity within the Empire, there was diversity of opinion us to the extent to which it should Ire applied. He contended' that Tasmanian farmers depended on their protected position in Australian markets. Therefore the free entry of New Zealand oats, potatoes and peas would be ruinous to them. The conference adopted this vieiv, and decided to suggest to the Federal Government to reopen negotiations with Canada and New Zealand, advocating reciprocity with due regard to the protection of the interests of individual States.

FATAL MOTOR ACCIDENT.
Sydney, March 28
“Snowy” Raker, George Redmond, (news editor of The Sn ) and trvo others, were motoring in Baker’s car at Manly when the tyre burst, flinging out the occupants. Redmond was killed and Baker injured and taken to the hospital. , The others were not seriously hurt.
