THE LATE BISHOP GRIMES.
BURIAL IN THE CHAPEL OF HOLY SOULS. Per Press Association. Christchurch, March 25. The burial service of Bishop Grimes took place this morning in the Cathedral. Requiem Mass was sung by Bishop Cleary, assisted by Dean Hills. There was a large gathering, and the building was crowded. Among those present were representatives of His Excellency the Governor, public bodies and institutions. Archbishop O’Shea pronounced a panegyric, and briefly expressed the thanks of the Catholic Clergy and laity for the kind messages of sympathy of all creeds and classes in the Dominion. The Archbishop thanked the Government and the Governor in particular. After referring to the late Bishop’s career, he said that the departed prelate had a great love for the Dominion, for which he always predicted a great future. The Church had sustained a great loss, but she was not without great hope. Grief had drawn many together, and it would help to draw close those various creeds. The body was interred in the Chapel of Holy Souls.
