THE EVACUATION OF MEMEL.
United Press Association. (Received 9.5 a.m.) Petrograd, Mnrr-h 21. Official.—As the Russians advanced, two,, regiments of the Landsturra defending Memel were driven Ijack and mingled with the population. The Russians entering at eight o'clock iu the evening, encountered" fire from .the houses, which were barricaded, i" The' civilians equally with the troops participated. The Russians were -then withdrawn and MJemel was subjected to a short bombardment, which ended the resistance, and the town was evacuated, the inhabitants taking refuge! at Konigsberg. DEVASTATION IN POLAND. Petrograd> March 20. ' The Germans in Poland devastated ninety-five towns and 4500 hamlets, of which a.thousand were burned to the ground, the damage totalling a hundred million sterling. ;
