LEO CHERNIAVSKY. .Music lovers are delighted that the Cheraiavsky brothers are appearing tn-aigat in the Town Hall. Leo Chershy, the oldest of the trio, was boro on 30th August. 1890. When be was six his father began to teach him [the violin, and the boy trade such [wonderful progress that si.: months jlat-T he was allowed to make his first public appearanc" with Iris lather’s (orchestra. Shortly afterwards he won la prize, 100 roubles (£10), at the Odessa Conservatoire. Then Leo went ou tour (with bis brother Jan) making it hard for him to take a proper 1 course of lessons with any other teacher than his father. However, bis elder brother, Gregor, himself a great violinist, was at that time one of the best pupils of Professor Auer at Petrograd Conservatoire, and in his holidays Gregor used to join Leo on tour and impart to him the great Professor’s teaching and methods, which he bad thoroughly assimilated. Auer was so greatly impressed when ho subsequently beard Leo play for the first time that he summoned Ins pupils to listen.to him; later on Leo took lessons from Ysaye, who not long ago sent him his photograph with the flattering inscription “to uiv colleague.” H IS MAJESTY’S THEATRE.
“Home, Sweet Home” is taken from the ever-living song, “Home, Sweet Home,” by John. Howard Payne. The first episode shows the life of Payne, and there are three episodes besides. One shows the story of the great west of America and the part the song plays ; the other is a society story, the song again playing an important part ; and in the last story a life is saved through its sweet melody, ‘‘Home, Sweet Horne.”
