In the West.
SIR JOHN FRENCH'S REPORT. United Press Association. (Received 1.15 p.m.) London, March 19. Sir John French’s report states: The general situation is unchanged. An isolated attack at Saint Eioi by 200 Germans was easily repulsed, twothirds of the assailants being either killed or wounded. The gallantry and dash of the troops at last week’s operations in the vicinity of Neuve Chappelle under Sir Douglas Haig’s able an u i determined leadership proved conclusively that the four months of sedentary life spent in working in the trenches had in nowdse impaired their original fighting qualities.”
