STRATFORD CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

A mooting of the Chamber of Commerce last evening was attended by Messrs ■l. H. Billiards (.President, in the chain, I). .). Malone, U. Masters, W. A. Hewitt, I*. Thomson, W. P. Kirkwood, and H. E. Lawrence, honorary secretary. A letter of appreciation and thanks was received from Mr S. E.« Meredith on beharl of the Ohura visitors. Mr .1. H. Mine, ALP., advised the Chamber that he had interviewed the Hon. the Minister of Public Works rc the expenditure of grants for improvement of the Papa rata saddle on the Ohura Hoad. It was decided to seek reply concerning representations made urging telephonic communication between Tahora and Tatn. Letters were received from the Hon. Minister of Justice and Police Commissioner relative to additional police supervision in Stratford, stating the matter was under consideration. Air P. Burgess/ of Aloeroa, in the Omoana district, wrote seeking co-operation of the Chamber towards getting better communication with Douglas railway station and stock sales, and it was decided to co-operate. With reference to Press reports of attempts to have alterations made to railway time-table on main line, it was,'decided that tire interests of the district do not warrant any alteration. It was decided to write to Mr J. B. Hine, M.P., with reference to the Stratford Post Office. Telegrams which had passed between the Chamber and the Hon. Prime Minister with reference to "the blockage at Waitara Freezing Works were read, but no further action was taken. A report from the New Zealand Forest and Bird Life Protection Society was received, containing particulars of reservation for scenic purposes of an area on Whangamornona Saddle. A number of circular letters from the Department of Agriculture and Industries and from the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce relating, to preference to British and French manufactures were received.
