OPENING OF CELEBRATED SPANDAU WAR CHEST.
United Press Association. (Received 9.30 a.m.) London, March 18. Germany has opened the Spandau war chest. • New British sovereigns of 1873 are coming into circulation via Scandinavia.
(The Spandan war chest is a tower built at Spandau, a fortified town in Brandenburg, seven miles from Berlin. The tower contains the whole of the indemnity of £200,000,000 in gold, paid by Franco at the close of the Franco-Prussian war.
