LOCAL BODIES PROTEST. Peb Press (Association. Dunedin, March 17. At a meeting of the City Council to-night it was decided to endorse the resolution passed by Runanga Borough Council .protesting against the inaction of the (Government in connection with the regulation of the prices of foodstuffs. At the annual meeting of the Otago General Laborers’ Union to-night a motion was carried calling on the Government immediately to deal with the increased cost of living as affecting the workers. The motion stated that the increase pressed most heavily on the casual workers, particularly the man with a family. The casual worker had been called on and had responded in many cases in a wholehearted manner, and it now became the imperative duty of the Government to safeguard the worker and mitigate the heavy toll taken from him by the enhanced cost of the actual necessaries of life.
