CRICKET.
Yesterday a team from Tariki played a return match with the Stratford District High School, and were defeated by 17 runs. The team from Tariki arrived about 10.30 a.m., and play was started at 11 a.m. Tariki won the toss and sent the school in. School opened well, but finished up with the small score of 36. Tariki then went and started well. With 5 wickets down for 72, the teams adjourned for dinner. After dinner, Tariki started badly, and the remaining 5 wickets fell with only 2 more runs added to the total score. School hatted again and made 10S runs, the main scorer being C. H. Stephensen, who made 37. When Tariki again started to bat, at first it looked as if the 71 runs needed to win would be obtained, hut they went to pieces and finished with 53 as then total. The teams then had afternoon tea in the school, which was prepared by the 'teachers. C. Lawn took some good catches during the day. For Tariki, Rnmball made 27 in the first innings and 21 in the second, when he was caught out. The following are the scores:—
