Despite the difficulties which the | journey presents, Opuiuike Races on •JSt. Patrick’s Day attracted a great gathering, and investment was exceedjiugly brisk, tlie sum of £13,182 being [pat through the totalisator as against I £11,875 last year. Some improvements have recently Imen effected, hut many more are urgently required if popular favour is to he retained. .Mr C. Patterson, of Wanganui, was Stipendiary Steward, hut found nothing to seriously trouble him. Heavy rain set iu at the end of the day, making the homeward journey none too pleasant.
