THE MUNICIPAL BUILDINGS LOAN
The Mayor of Stratford. "Mr W. P. 1 Kirkwood, certainly did the right tiling in placing the matter of re-building the Municipal Chambers (which were destroyed by lire a lew months ago) before
the ratepayers quite frankly and fully. | From Iris statement it must be plain that the Borough is losing a considerable amount of revenue while the site of the Municipal Buildings remains idle, and also that it is possible to erect a block of buildings worthy of the progress the town and district are making without placing any further burden on the shoulders of but rather, in fact, assisting by contributing a surplus revenue over the sum required for interest and charges on the requisite special loan. The expiling Council has been greatly during its term of ofiiee, but on this question of a special loan for re-build-ing the Municipal Chambers is quite unanimous, and we fail to see what other course there is to pursue. 'I hat there may he opponents to the scheme, is undoubted: some because they havwj not fully grasped the position, others for reasons known only to themselves, and others for no reason at all. A correspondent, whom we should suppose, belongs to one of the above small envisions, writes an extravagant letter under the shelter of the pen name “North Stratford.” The outburst is too sweepingly extravagant to do more than provoke wide smiles, while the suggestion for severance is not likely to he taken very seriously.
